President’s Monthly Update
May 2, 2006
Greetings!!!
These monthly reports are intended to help to keep everyone informed
of things that are happening in Athletic Training in the State of West
Virginia, in District #3 (MATA) and at the National level. It will
generally be in bullet form to keep it concise. If you have questions
about items in the report or anything else please do not hesitate to
contact me or a member of the Executive Council. I can be reached at

report will be posted on the WVATA website and is intended to
encourage the members of the WVATA to visit the website regularly as a
means of staying informed of items that are important to all of us.
• Thanks to all who assisted with the Annual WVATA Meeting held in
Charleston at the University of Charleston. It was an outstanding
meeting and a special thank you needs to be given to Erika Zimmerman
and Derrick Billup whom went above and beyond the call of duty in
putting the meeting together.
• Thank you to the Athletic Training Students at the University of
Charleston for their help in putting on the Annual WVATA Meeting,
Erika and Derrick both voiced their thanks after the meeting.
• Congratulations and thank you to Jeromy Alt of West Virginia
University for agreeing to chair the annual meeting committee. Those
wishing to assist or help Jeromy should contact him at jeromy.alt@mail.wvu.edu
• Next years state meeting will be held at the University of
Charleston. This completes their two year commitment. Parties wishing
to host the state meeting the future should also contact Jeromy Alt.
• Congratulations to Erika Zimmerman, WVATA Athletic Trainer of the
Year.
• Congratulations to Jeromy Alt, WVATA Athletic Training Educator of
the Year.
• We encourage everyone to attend the District 3 meeting in Virginia
Beach May 19-21. WVATA members presenting at this years meeting are:
John Spiker PT, ATC; Richie Martin PT, ATC; Dr. Matt Lively DO; and
Robert Cable MS, ATC.
• We encourage all WVATA members that can attend the National Meeting
in Atlanta to please do so. As we are located close to Atlanta, we
should try to have a strong contingent from West Virginia.
• Congratulations to all of the seniors from all of programs in West
Virginia (Alderson Broaddus, West Virginia Wesleyan, University of
Charleston, West Virginia University, Marshall University) who passed
the NATABOC exam.
• The executive committee will be meeting on May 16 to begin the
process of interviewing new lobbyists. If you have input concerning
this, please call one of the members of the executive committee.
• Congratulations and thank you to Art Lilly of CAMC, Art has kindly
agreed to be the state representative for the NATA clinical,
industrial, and corporate athletic training committee. He will be
working closely with John Lopez, the District 3 chair for that
committee. Questions and concerns should be directed to Art. art.lilly@camc.org
• We are also in need of a representative for the Collegiate Athletic
Trainers’ Association. Anyone interested in this please contact me at
your earliest possible convenience.
If there is any additional information that I have left out, I am
sorry. Please forward it to me and I will include it in my June
letter. In the mean time, good luck to everyone in both high schools
and colleges that are in play-off situations, to those of you who are
done with all athletic of your athletic responsibilities…rest. You
only have 90 days until football starts again! Best wishes and I look
forward to seeing you in Virginia Beach and Atlanta.
